Road to God

Ilgar converted to Christianity in 2020. He credits his wife Sona for bringing faith into his life and showing him the value of true devotion to spirituality.

Their collective family journey to Christianity started over 20 years ago when Ilgar and Sona struggled to have children. Sona started attending a Christian church and made a vow to devote herself to God if the couple was blessed with children. Her prayers were quickly rewarded by the miraculous birth of their first son, David.

Sona increasingly devoted herself to the Christian faith, which caused problems for Ilgar in predominantly-Muslim Azerbaijan. Ilgar found himself criticized for his open-mindedness towards a different religion. Senior officials ordered him to forbid Sona from practicing Chrisianity. He refused since he believed that his wife was free to make her own choices in life. The couple began donating to Christian churches and organizations in Azerbaijan, further angering the authorities.

Ilgar started to feel even more connected to Christianity after the trauma of two corporate raids. Sona’s faith was an inspiration and helped pull him out of depression. He re-assessed his life priorities and understood more clearly than ever before what mattered most to him. It was his family.

He credits God for leading him down the path to salvation. He is now actively involved in supporting various Christian causes, especially those related to helping children and parents struggling with infertility.
